Brackley Festival of Motorcycling is all about the bikes right?
 
Well, that’s not really the whole story. There’s a huge amount of good work that gets done because of the bikes.
 
The Brackley Festival of Motorcycling is run by volunteers. We don’t get paid, we just do it because we love motorcycles and we care about the local community. What’s that bit about the local community? What’s that got to do with anything? Apart from the increased traffic and the high street closure that is.
 
Since it started, Brackley Festival of Motorcycling has been a non-profit making event with all of the money raised going to local charities (net of costs). With your help, we have raised a huge amount of money over the years for a wide range of causes which has had a great positive impact on the local and wider community.
 
We wanted to take a few minutes to tell you about some of the great work that has been done by some of the beneficiaries of our donations.

Brackley Bowls Club
 
In 2016 Brackley Festival of Motorcycling made a donation to Brackley Bowls Club.
The bowling club might seem like an odd recipient of a charitable donation but the bowling club is much more than just a bowling club.
Bowls gets you out into the fresh air and helps alleviate depression and anxiety. It involves an element of problem solving skills and also helps improve co-ordination and concentration. Bowls helps improve self-esteem and gets you out and about and meeting people and being part of a team also gives you a sense of belonging. It is a low-impact, therapeutic exercise that can improve fitness, coordination and confidence which contributes to all round happiness and well-being of its members.
 
The donation was awarded to the Brackley Bowls Club by Dominic Copas, Chairman of the Brackley Festival of Motorcycling and was presented to Brackley Bowls Club President Mr.Trevor Gregory in the company of Richard Somerton, Club Chairman.
 
Mr Copas thanked the Club for their support of the 2016 event, adding that he hoped this donation would help the Bowls Club to continue to offer a very valuable sporting and social opportunity for the local community.
Mr Gregory thanked the Festival Committee for their donation adding that it would help to move the Club forward. He added that the Club had been very pleased to support the Festival as it has become a major and valued event in the Town.

Katharine House Hospice

In 2016, the Brackley Festival of Motorcycling made a charitable donation to Katharine House Hospice.
Sadly, these days, there a very few of us who haven’t been touched by the loss of a loved one. Katharine House provides free hospice care services in Mid Staffordshire for people faced with an illness that cannot be cured. Their aim is to enable their patients and those close to them to live as fully as possible and make the most of the time that's left. They do a truly amazing job and offer valuable support at the worst of times.
 
The donation was presented to Dean Harris , Fund Raising Assistant of Katharine House Hospice by Dominic Copas, Chairman Brackley Festival of Motorcycling.
Mr Copas stated that one of the principal objectives of the Festival was to raise proceeds to support local charitable organisations, adding the Committee were proud to be able to support the invaluable service offered by the Hospice to the local community. Mr. Harris offered a sincere thank you to the Festival Committee, saying; “This fantastic sum could fund our bereavement service for a whole month, helping local children, teenagers and adults come to terms with the loss of someone close to them. The donation is greatly appreciated by everyone at the Hospice, and we’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who made the Brackley Festival of Motorcycling possible”.

​1460 (Banbury) Sqn ATC

The Air Training Corps (ATC) is a British youth organisation sponsored by the Ministry of Defence and the Royal Air Force. The ACT Encourages the spirit of adventure and develops qualities of leadership and good citizenship.
Dominic Copas, Chairman Brackley Festival of Motorcycling, presented a donation cheque to Mr Neil Biggs Chair of the Banbury Squadron Air Cadets Civilian Committee in the company of Cadets who supported the Festival in 2016, Warrant Officer Collier, the Squadron Training Officer, and Tracey Heaton Biggs also a member of the Civilian Committee.
The cadets did some excellent work and helped to make the 2016 festival a success.  Praising their efficiency in executing a challenging role Mr Colas said; “You were a real credit to the Squadron and helping to make the Festival a success and praised their efficiency in executing a challenging role; ‘You were a real credit to the Squadron and the contribution they make to the local community, and were great role models for other young people to follow.’  contribution they make to the local community, and were great role models for other young people to follow.”
Mr Biggs commented the Squadron had been delighted to be invited to attend and apply their skills to the task, and were very grateful for the generous donation. He added, “The Civilian Committee is solely responsible for raising funds for the Squadron and that this contribution would go a long way in allowing us to conduct all our non-military activities such as Duke of Edinburgh, and pays for our Squadron mini bus”.
